This course is accredited by SRFAC and aims to provide participants with knowledge & techniques to recognise and mitigate injuries and medical emergencies like severe breathing difficulties and bleedings. Participants will also learn skills and techniques to assist adults suffering from heart attack or cardiac arrest.
Participants are required to have a valid Standard First Aid Certificate to be able to participate in this refresher course.

The Standard First Aid certification is a requirement for all Singapore Sports Coaches/Instructors/Trainers to attain under the Sports Singapore (Sports SG).
The goal of this course is to provide relevant knowledge and skills in rendering first aid treatment during an emergency or injury during the course of coaching.
The course syllabus has been updated as of 1st June 2020. Learners will now attain 2 different first aid certifications upon completion of this course.
Entry Requirements
- Physically healthy and able to complete course objectives
- Able to speak, read and understand English effectively as our courses are conducted in English.
- Participants are required to have a valid Standard First Aid Certificate to be able to participate in the course.
Course Objectives
This course provides the relevant knowledge and skills needed to apply first aid to adult casualty during any medical emergency that might arise and to use the Automated Defibrillator (AED) safely.
- Recognise a medical emergency situation.
- Activate the appropriate emergency response system and follow the Emergency Action Principles.
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of identified emergencies, illnesses and injuries.
- Perform the necessary and correct first aid treatment to a casualty based on the emergency, illness and injury
- Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for adult victims.

- Essentials of First Aid – Theory: 15 mins
- Unconscious Casualty (Non-Cardiac Arrest) – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 30 mins
- Respiratory Problems – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 60 mins
- Shock, Bleeding and Wounds – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 60 mins
- Musculoskeletal Injuries – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 90 mins
- Burn Injuries – Theory: 15 min
- Other First Aid Knowledge – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 30 mins
- CPR (Hands Only) + AED – Theory: 15 mins, Practical 90 mins

Course Assessments
Each learner will be assessed based on their competencies in 2 key components: theory and practice.
Theory Assessments
(2 attempts allowed) - 30 Minutes
This assessment comes with 30 multiple choice questions. The questions are broken down into:
- Standard First Aid – 20 questions
- CPR (Hands Only) + AED – 10 questions
Practical Assessments
(3 attempts allowed) - 3.5 hours
For practical assessment, learners will undergo scenario-based tests. This is to ensure that they are able to carry out the necessary first-aid steps across multiple medical emergency scenarios.
In order to pass the practical assessment, 100% score is required.
Attendance
100% course attendance is required to be eligible for assessment.
Certifications
Upon successfully completing the standard first-aid course, learners will be awarded with these 2 first aid certificates (renewed) to recognise their competencies.
CPR (Hands-Only) + AED Provider Certificate
This course is accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) and Sports SG. The certification is valid for 2 years. Results will be released on the day of training or after 2 working days after the course ends. A pass (credit card size) of achievement will be issued to all participants after the release of the results.

The re-assessment fee of $40 applies for trainees who fail their 2nd attempt of the theory assessment
Learners who fail in the practical assessment will have to retake both the theory and practical assessments.
Sport Singapore requires all NROC-registered coaches to have a valid Standard First Aid certificate.

According to SRFAC, the class size will be capped at 16 learners per class. Whereas for practical sessions involving CPR and AED topics, the Instructor-to-Manikin-to-Learner ratio is 1:1:4.
Upon completion of the standard first aid course, you should receive 2 certifications – SFA & CPR(HO)+AED – each valid for two years. To renew your certification, you will need to attend a refresher course 3 months before or after expiry of certificate. If your certification has lapsed more than 3 months from expiry, you will need to restart the certification process.
